When the past still feels present

You don’t have to have PTSD to have something worth processing

Sometimes people come to EMDR because of a specific traumatic event. For others, it’s a pattern of experiences that happened over many years.

You might experience anxiety, panic, low self-worth, relationship difficulties, strong emotional reactions or a sense that certain experiences are still affecting you.

You don’t need to decide whether what happened to you “counts” as trauma before getting help.

EMDR can help you process what has happened, so that it no longer feels so present.

Why Work With Me?

I’m Jane, a BACP Accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and EMDR Therapist, with extensive experience supporting adults with trauma, anxiety, difficult life experiences and relationship difficulties.

Alongside my therapist and supervisory training, I have completed certified EMDR training and am a member of The EMDR Association. I combine EMDR with trauma-informed, relational and integrative approaches to ensure I embody the therapeutic style that fits uniquely to you.

My approach is compassionate, collaborative and change-focussed. We’ll work together to understand what’s happening for you and what you need from therapy.

“What might be different for me?”

You may be hoping to:

  • feel less overwhelmed by memories or triggers
  • stop reacting as though you’re back in the situation
  • feel safer and more settled in yourself
  • reduce anxiety and distress
  • understand why certain experiences still affect you
  • feel less controlled by the past
  • move forward without having to forget what happened

A safe and collaborative approach

EMDR isn’t about forcing yourself to talk through everything that has happened.

Before processing begins, we’ll take time to understand what you’re experiencing and make sure you have enough stability and resources to approach the work safely.  I work collaboratively, at a pace that feels manageable for you, with attention to both your emotional and physical responses to what you’ve experienced.

Another crucial aspect of EMDR therapy is the integration of coping strategies. We will explore various techniques that can help you manage distressing emotions and sensations that may arise during the processing phase.

These strategies not only empower you to feel more in control but also enhance the overall effectiveness of the therapy by providing you with tools to navigate challenging moments, ensuring that you feel supported throughout your healing journey.
